Maya’s love of wild places has been woven throughout her life. She was, after all, raised by a pack of wolves. A lover of movement and dance, she believes that rhythm and wilderness both remind us that we are alive to create meaning and be in connection. Maya feels most herself when surrounded by vast desert landscapes, loving community, or on the dance floor.
She has spent three years field guiding adolescent girls’ groups in the mountains of Colorado and is now in her final year of a master’s in clinical social work in New Mexico. She has spent the last two years as an intern therapist at The Sky Center NMSIP working in suicide prevention with families. Leading rites of passage is a craft of hers and she loves the art of walking beside others as they step into their own becoming.
Playful, curious, and wild at heart, Maya brings a deep passion for helping girls and women find truthful expression and compassion for themselves. Her medicine lies in her willingness to meet tenderness and raw emotion with presence and humor. When she’s not writing academic papers and sitting with families, she can be found cooking a beautiful meals, hiking with her dogs, reading memoirs, and tending her garden.
